Symposium: The Capital Projects Technology Roadmap and the Lean Project Delivery System The Lean Construction Institute (LCI) and FIATECH are jointly sponsoring a symposium on the relationship between management philosophy and technology. The symposium will take place at Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington Virginia on January 13th, 2005. FIATECH Members are invited to attend “Introduction to Lean Construction: Production Control & Work Structuring” at the same location on January 11 & 12. One of FIATECH's primary focuses to date has been the development of the Capital Projects Technology Roadmap, which provides an overarching vision of a highly automated and integrated capital project and facility management environment. LCI has developed a Lean Project Delivery System based on the management philosophy exemplified in the Toyota Production System. Founded on the assumption that technological development and management philosophy must be mutually consistent, the questions for the day are: · "What management philosophy is required for achieving FIATECH's goals?" · "What is the technology roadmap for the Lean Project Delivery System?" Members of LCI and FIATECH will join together with industry practitioners and academics to discuss these questions and to develop recommendations for LCI and for FIATECH as they pursue their objectives. The registration fee for all three days for FIATECH and LCI members is $650. FIATECH members who attend only the January 13th session will be charged $400. (Why this fee? Because we want you to attend the LCI seminar so you can participate fully in the joint FIATECH /LCI meeting.) Those who are neither members of LCI nor FIATECH may attend the introductory seminar for $800 but are not invited to the joint meeting. Online registration for the seminar and joint meeting is available at http://intro2leanconst.mollyguard.com. The seminar and joint meeting will be held in at the Key Bridge Marriott near Washington, DC. 1401 Lee Highway, Arlington, VA, 22209, (703) 524-6400. Ask for the rate for the Lean Construction Institute. The seminar begins at 8 am each day. Breaks, lunches and workbooks are provided participants. Dress is casual. If you have difficulty registering online, send an email to jgclark@leanconstruction.org and request an invoice.

SoCal Lean Construction Institute

The Lean Construction Institute (LCI), a non-profit research organization, was founded in August 1997. LCI's purpose is to develop and disseminate new knowledge regarding the management of work in design, engineering and construction for capital facilities. LCI has developed the Lean Project Delivery System© (LPDS), and the Last Planner® System of production control. Lean Construction is a production management-based approach to project delivery - a new way to design and build capital facilities. Lean production management has caused a revolution in manufacturing design, supply and assembly. Applied to construction, Lean changes the way work is done throughout the delivery process. Lean Construction extends from the objectives of a lean production system - maximize value and minimize waste - to specific techniques and applies them in a new project delivery process extending from project definition through design, supply and assembly.
